My Theory On Derren Brown's "The Events: Control The Nation"

On Friday the 18th of September (2009), Derren Brown told us that he will show a subliminal film that will literally stick us to our seats.
Did it work? Yep. But not exactly to the whole nation, because keep in mind, he never promised that that would be possible.

Now, I can safely say that the film had no affect on me nor the person sitting next to me.
I do know however of one friend who it did work on. When someone asked her how to get stuck to their seat, she replied "Maybe sit closer to the TV?".
No. Seriously, that isn't going to help.
As Derren says in the film (which you can watch below), it will only work on those who are open to it and won't try to fight the process.
Then as he was talking, a quick subliminal message was shown, then the film played for about a minute, and as it finished, he gave instructions to keep calm and the subliminal message was shown for the second and final time.

The actual message which was shown two times was a cartoon sketch of a man tied to his chair. It clearly shows his arms and legs tied with rope.
Then the actual film, were only lines swirling round and round.
This bit was obviously to make the viewer feel dizzy, zoned out, completely unaware of what's happening to them. A simple hypnosis.
Then, just as about 50k of the viewers suddenly realised they were indeed glued to their seats, they were shown calming messages like "DON'T PANIC" and "BREATHE DEEPLY" with extra tones in the background.
I hated this part to be frank.

Also, I'd like to point out that by telling someone to NOT do something, the effect will turn out to be the opposite.
Tell a man to NOT fall, and he falls.
As Mr.Brown pointed out in one of the "Trick Or Treat" episodes.
So, DON'T PANIC. *Grins*

As for the rest, I really suggest that you pay attention to the rest of the episode, when he explains more on PWA.

I know that quite a few of those who didn't get stuck were pretty annoyed at Derren. In all honesty, they should be proud that they can't get so easily tricked. And in his defense, he was only making us all aware that any one of us could be easily controlled by those who might not have the best intentions.

I read and watched some people's reactions to the film, and it did scare me a little. Most seemed to mainly have felt a heavy sensation within the arms/hands, a headache and felt extremely giggly while watching the film. Only a few also felt that their legs were heavy too.

Just goes to show! It didn't work on me as I knew what to expect and tried to fight anything from happening to me.
Might try to learn more about PWA (Perception Without Awareness) as it is quite easy to understand.
Unlike the lottery episode, where it was all based on predictions, this one was the easiest to realise how those 50k viewers got stuck...
